I was speaking with a client this morning about a position they were trying to fill. I was shocked by what I was being told because very little of it made sense and it was all completely preventable.

For most people, what comes next is anxiety and worry; why me and what now? Here is a basic strategy that everyone can execute to be ready to find that next job in the event the unexpected happens.

The phrase, “there’s no comparison” might apply many places- the interview process isn’t one of them. As a matter of fact, when it comes to interviews it’s all about comparison.

If a recruiter is telling you she won’t work your search, pay attention. It could help you to learn a lot about what you are doing right, what you are doing wrong or could end up providing information about what your competitors or doing or the health of your market at large.

One thing I hear regularly from new clients is frustration at having candidates say “no!” to their offers. It’s deflating to invest time and effort to an interview process only to have your top candidate not accept. When that happens, it can leave a significant impact crater inside of the organization and sometimes can damage the company’s reputation as well.
